About Colombian AMACA Coffee
The AMACA (Asociación de Mujeres Productoras Agropecuarias del Cauca) is a group of 140 remarkable women producers located in El Tambo, Cauca, Colombia. Formed in 1999 by 80 women, AMACA now boasts 140 smallholder members across three villages. All of the members derive their livelihoods from the cultivation and production of coffee.
The average farm size is one hectare (around 5,000 coffee plants) per member, some members have three hectares and many members have less than one.
In terms of harvesting and process, members harvest only fully ripe cherries, depulping on the same day as harvesting. Processing takes place on members’ own farms, and drying on raised beds inside parabolic dryers.
AMACA is part of a global program that attempts to recognise and promote the work women do growing and producing coffees around the world. The program is aimed at empowering women along the global coffee supply chain by creating equity, visibility, and access to a wider market.
We at Primo are proud to play a small part in the final process so that you, the consumer, can not only enjoy a great coffee but also support this fantastic initiative.
